Trapp family breaks ground for new lodge

Ground is broken for a new five million dollar Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe Vermont nine months after a fire destroyed the old lodge and killed a guest. The new 73 room lodge will be larger and include an Austrian restaurant bar library indoor pool and tennis courts. The Trapps plan 20 vacation homes linked to Interval International with occupancy targets set for next summer and next winter. Maria von Trapp and townspeople attended the cornerstone ceremony amid a site expansion on the mountaintop where the family has lived since fleeing Austria over forty years ago. The former lodge burned on December 21 leaving Mrs von Trapp and other guests to escape in frigid conditions.
