MX missiles deployment not finalized official says
Washington officials say plans announced last week for 36 MX missiles are only examples and the decision process is not complete. Marvin Atkins of the Defense Department notes no decision on basing in Minuteman or Titan silos, or numbers, and states the Air Force will study costs, hardening, and protection against Soviet attack as interim steps toward closing the vulnerability window of the mid 1980s.

Watt memo sparks objections to 1976 environmental stance
Interior official James Watt's acting director pick faced criticism after Friends of the Earth released a 1976 memo by Andrew Bailey. The four paragraph note disparaged environmentalists and included a line about homosexuals and ideological eunuchs. Bailey, who signed it, said he did not recall that sentence and called it the work of a staffer.
