US rigs count falls to 1,837 in latest Baker Hughes tally
Baker Hughes reports 1,837 US rigs drilling this week, with 1,398 targeting oil and 437 for gas. Texas down 10, Louisiana and North Dakota each fall by three, Alaska and Oklahoma two fewer. Property owners sue over gas drilling waste wells
In Arkansas, residents from Independence and Faulkner counties sue Southwestern Energy Chesapeake Energy and XTO Energy in Little Rock federal court. The amended suit adds plaintiffs and seeks class status for landowners above Fayetteville Shale. Plaintiffs allege improper disposal of drilling fluids containing chemicals like formaldehyde and methanol under land not owned or leased by the companies. The case centers on fracking fluids injected to fracture rock to bring natural gas to the surface.
