Oregon donor hepatitis C outbreak linked to transplants
One person died and five others became ill after receiving organs or tissue from a donor with hepatitis C. The case, involving donors tested for infection, shows a six to eight week window where antibodies are not yet detectable, leaving recipients at risk. Recipients across 14 states and two other countries were affected. 18 of 40 tested so far show infection, with nine uninfected and three previously infected.
