Halliburton to merge with Dresser in major energy services deal
The merger creates a combined energy services group with four units, including Kellogg Brown & Root. Halliburton agrees to divest its logging-while-drilling unit, valued under 50 million in 1997, within 180 days, while directional drilling and Sperry Sun remain unaffected. The deal affects about 263 to 439 million Halliburton shares and spans 1998 revenue of 8.8 billion and net income of 447 million.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments December 8 over a softball of sanctions tied to Texas Tech player Jones. The NCAA seeks to overturn a temporary injunction allowing Jones to play, arguing the 75 percent rule and degree hours were not met.
