Widespread soaking rains hit the Permian Basin and much of Texas, with daily totals from Odessa to Dallas showing meaningful moisture. Forecasters predict continued rain through Monday night and Tuesday, aiding crops and water supplies despite three years of drought.
Sam King, manager of the Negro Socialite Club, faces a second felony charge for operating a gambling house after a Sunday raid at 312% S Tom Green. Police arrested King and nine patrons. all pleaded not guilty and were released on $5 cash bonds. King was freed on $1,000 bond. Detectives said a dice game was in progress.
Immediate bail release for Nago Alaniz, held in Alice, was ordered by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in the Floyd Jr. murder case. Bail set at 15000, state may contest. ruling follows a separate decision denying Mario Sapet bail.
Chicago November 24 The University of Wisconsin was selected over Purdue by the Big Ten athletic directors to represent the conference in the Rose Bowl next New Year's Day against Southern California. Wisconsin and Purdue shared the Big Ten championship.

The Grubaugh assault to murder trial of Oran Leo Grubaugh 31 of Midland was continued to the February term in 70th District Court. The continuance was granted after Grubaughs attorney Murray Howze cited his client mother Mrs T O Wilson of Kermithospitalization. Odessa DA W O Shafer did not oppose as key witness Evelyn Grubaugh failed to appear. Mrs Grubaugh estranged wife was shot in Midland on August 22 with eleven bullet wounds.

Carter C. Cutbirth 34 and Carl Dwain Saunders 18 were in county jail on $1000 bonds each after police say they attempted to pass a $25 forged check at a liquor store signed Ralph Dunn. A second similar check was found in their possession. Both face forgery charges in Justice of Peace Thomas Murphy's court.
A federal grand jury in Washington declined to return indictments in the Orange Texas port case. The panel heard evidence on overseas shipments of defense goods via the Orange port and cleared two Texas men and a former civilian employee at Army headquarters. Named were Joseph P. Kerr of Lone Star Bag Corp in Houston, Als Raymond Sanders of Norwood in Orange, and Harold Dowell.
The U S Parole Board denied Alger Hiss parole for the five year term he is serving for perjury. Chairman Dr George G Killinger announced the unanimous denial after reviewing the official record and a report from his prison visit to Lewisburg.
UN and South Korean forces repelled Chinese attempts to seize Pinpoint Hill and Rock Mount on Sniper Ridge. Red forces, ranging up to 600 troops, faced precise fire as UN artillery and night bombing shattered supply convoys and storage sites eight miles northwest of Sinanju.
A 17 year old telephone operator was assaulted while walking home from work in Houston. A 16 year old Black suspect was arrested minutes later though the victim doubted identification and police searched for another man. The victim, mother of a 17 month old, described being dragged into a shed by a masked assailant who warned her not to scream.

In Ogdensburg New York 18 year old Robert P St Denny fatally shot his 15 year old girlfriend Jeanette Gilbault during a quarrel at the Rocker home then killed himself Lt Denny returned with a rifle and fired through the living room window before taking his own life Officials said Dist Atty Charles A Bowers provided details of the incident which occurred last night at dinner guests living in the house.

A 17 year old El Paso student, Clara Johnson, survived an eight minute heart stoppage during an appendectomy at Hermann Hospital in Houston. Doctors say her condition remains grave but she is fighting for life as prayers are offered. Her fever fell from 107 to 104 degrees. The incident occurred during surgery performed by a surgeon who massaged the heart for three minutes to restart it.
