Hawk Strays Into Safeway. Perches, Bounces Into Glass
A full grown hawk wandered into Safeway at 2740 North Grandview Friday morning. Store workers and police tried to guide it out with a mop and a humane officer, but the bird kept flying above display cases until it accidentally hit a glass door. The hawk recovered after a brief stun and was placed in the animal control truck. Manager Bill Bartholomae noted the bird entered when an automatic door stuck open and caused no injuries or severe disruption.

Lawmen Probe Two Burglaries
Two breakins were reported to the sheriff's department Friday morning. The Connor Coating and Paint Store at 2317 West 81st reported a new cutting torch and a .22 pistol stolen from its office after the back door was forced. James R. Connor, part owner, put torch value at $80 and pistol at $100. Trinity Engineering Testing Corp at 414 South Grandview found a rear-door entry Thursday night with a cutting torch valued at $45, about 50 feet of hose worth $5, and a $30 oxygen-acetylene gauge stolen.

A Sears credit officer Richard Castillo told Odessa police that the store at 1010 East Eighth was robbed Thursday night by three men using a stolen credit card. The card stolen several days earlier in Waco was used for multiple purchases.

Lucille Lamar McDow 59 of 911 East 12th died today at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness. Services Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with burial Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born June 30 1912 in Tecumseh Oklahoma she married Alex L. McDow in 1930. Survived by two daughters Ruby Lee McDow and Helen Ragsdale a son A L McDow seven grandchildren and one great grandchild and two sisters Fern Burns and Wilma Coughran. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She moved to Odessa in 1940 from Hobbs New Mexico.

Funeral services for Dave Tarver 62 of Stephenville, father of Odessa fireman Charles Tarver, are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Stephenville Funeral Home with burial in Stephenville. Bus Abductor Due Sentence in Greyhound Theft Case
Gary L. Jacobs, 27, will be sentenced November 23 for the theft of a Greyhound bus. He pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Joe E. Estes to driving the bus from Nashville Tennessee to Ozona Texas, where it was abandoned. Maximum penalties include $5,000 fine and five years in prison or both.
