The Bard of Route 17: Thurston Cooper's Philosophy Billboard
EAST RUTHERFORD N J Thurston Cooper of Cooper Lumber Co uses a 6 by 16 foot flood lit billboard on Route 17 to display philosophical quotes for a decade. He says readers respond with letters and calls ranging from curiosity to anger. Most sayings are borrowed, with one original line claiming no one drowns from their own sweat.
