New home construction dips in April
Washington AP reports April housing starts fell 2.1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.97 million, after March's 2.01 million. Despite the drop, economists say the residential construction sector remains healthy, with regional gains in the Midwest, South, and Northeast offset by a sharp 13.7 percent drop in the West. The Dow rose 61.60 points to 9,968.51 as mortgage rates trend upward.
