GOP Leader and Oilman Mark McLean Dies in San Antonio
Mark McLean 69 prominent oilman and political leader died at his San Antonio home after a brief illness. Funeral services set for 11 a.m. at his residence with Dr. W R White of Baylor University officiating. Burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Verna Hooks McLean a daughter Ruth Bowman a sister and five grandchildren. Born Sherman June 20 1883 he promoted oil from salt dome flanks and moved to Beaumont in 1907 before settling in San Antonio in 1933 where he became a civic leader and Baylor benefactor. He supported Taft and served as vice chairman of the National Republican Finance Committee.
