Mickelson Wins Nelson for Third Title in Texas

Phil Mickelson won the GTE Byron Nelson Classic at Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas with a final 72-hole total of 265, 15 under par, earning $270,000 and becoming the PGA Tour's first three-time winner in 1996. He closed with a 66, sinking a 30-foot pitch shot on the par-5 16th and led most of the final rounds, fending off Craig Parry and an international chase including Ben Crenshaw, Nick Price, Mark Wiebe, and David Duval.
