SC House approves bill to move Confederate flag monument

In a 62 to 48 vote the South Carolina House approves a measure to relocate the Confederate flag from the Capitol to a Confederate soldier monument on Capitol grounds. The bill sets July 1 for removal, raises the monument pole height, adds lighting and fencing, and tightens rules on memorial changes. The measure returns to the Senate amid continued NAACP boycott pressure and GOP governor Hodges signaling support.

Striking pilots force United to cancel hundreds of flights

United Airlines canceled about 150 flights as pilots walked out, with a total of 381 of 2,400 daily flights grounded Thursday. Most cancellations stemmed from Midwest weather, while the carrier fine tuned schedules and warned customers a week ahead. Air Line Pilots Association sought comment and said officials had not responded yet. United and pilots are negotiating with a mediator under federal rules governing labor actions.
