First court martial for Abu Ghraib abuse set in Baghdad
U S military policeman Jeremy C Smits 24 Hyndman Pa will be first soldier to face a court martial over Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse with trial set in Baghdad for May 19. He is charged with conspiracy maltreatment dereliction of duty and mistreatment and could face up to a year in prison a rank reduction and pay forfeiture. Seven soldiers face charges overall and more trials are expected.
