Waste Control Specialists seeks expanded waste handling capacity
Our view supports Waste Control Specialists expanding its licensed operations in Andrews County Texas to store and process additional hazardous and low level radioactive waste. The firm seeks two licenses from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to permit mined uranium transport from South Texas and to store low level radioactive waste from 1600 facilities. If approved the site could double its workforce to about 200 and serve DOE waste. The panel notes WCS has operated for ten years and acts as a good neighbor with a transparent safety record while acknowledging ongoing environmental opposition.
