In Leesburg Florida a 94 year old wheelchair bound man Irwin R Null died after a beating in his garage while he met a man interested in buying his van. His wife heard moaning but could not reach him. Police were drafting a sketch of the man involved and sought to question him without calling him a suspect.
In Columbus Georgia after hundreds of angry calls and emails school officials cut a 10 day suspension for Kevin Francois a 17 year old Spencer High School junior who refused to hand over his cell phone during lunch and spoke to his mother a sergeant on duty in Iraq The school district allows phones but bans use during school and police say the punishment cited disorderly conduct and defiance.
Space strapped foster care officials were ordered by the state to end housing youths in the waiting room of the county Department of Children and Family Services downtown office. The ruling set a May 20 deadline and noted children have been living there since 2003.
