Ospreys Quiet Fire Siren in Spring Lake
In Spring Lake New Jersey a pair of ospreys built a nest on the town siren used by the fire department and first aid squad. Because ospreys are protected during breeding season the nest cannot be disturbed and the siren is turned off for spring and summer. Fire crews rely on pagers and cell phones while a backup siren remains unused. Authorities may relocate the nest next year to keep emergency alerts functioning.
