Fossil shows transitional dinosaur in Utah moving from meat to plants
In east central Utah scientists describe Falcarius utahensis a small two to three foot tall dinosaur at Green River dig site dating 125 million years. The transitional omnivore had meat-eating teeth but a growing plant-eating body and long neck reaching fruit and leaves. Paleontologist James Kirkland notes the animal likely ate both meat and plants illustrating a step in the evolution to herbivory.
