Trial begins for Odessa man in girlfriend shooting
Prosecutors told an Ector County jury that 26 year old Eric Holguin should be convicted of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a loaded handgun went off during a gathering on West 23rd Street. Holguin says he believed the weapon was empty. Angelica Root died days later. The case, in Judge James Rush's court, resumes with Holguin defended by Michael McLeaish as Lisa Borden leads the prosecution.

Odessa police reported multiple felony arrests from April 29 to May 1. Max Brandon Sibayan and Lisa Gail Horton were flagged on warrants. Sibayan faced possession and false ID charges and Horton forgery. Hector Valenzuela was charged with credit card abuse after a traffic stop. Additional arrests included Jeremy Roberts for DUI third offense and Oma Gonzalez for theft, with more warrants and methamphetamine cases recorded.

Two hurt in Loop 338 wreck near FM 3503 intersection
A pickup allegedly pulled into the path of a GMC towing a compressor on Loop 338 west of FM 3503. The GMC rolled over and both vehicles occupants suffered minor injuries, taken to hospital. Witness Jorge Hinojos of Odessa corroborated the crash.
