Iraqi-American seeks permission to join fight against Saddam

Haider Al-Jubary, 29, a Dearborn refugee who fled Iraq after being forced into the army, has applied to the Defense Department to serve with coalition forces to topple Saddam Hussein. He sits with friends at Sinbad's Cafe as war news plays on screens. He says he dreams of fighting shoulder to shoulder with the U.S. Army and views it as his duty. The Free Iraqi Forces, trained to aid operations, may train up to 3,000 people in Hungary. Al-Jubary owns a Dearborn business and came to the United States in 1992 after an uprising was crushed. His cousin has recently been called to join U.S. military efforts.
