Winter rainfall ends long drought across East Coast
A snowy and rainy season lifted the East Coast out of a five year drought, replenishing lakes and aquifers from Georgia to Maine. Virginia and Maryland logged very wet winters while northern Maine and parts of Vermont remain dry. In Georgia the moisture benefits crops but hampers onion disease control, with likely damage to an $80 million Vidalia crop. West of the Rockies a record Denver blizzard boosted snowfall. Delaware River basin wells and reservoirs rose to levels not seen since 1998.
