Gas pipeline faces sour gas transport challenge in Crane County
State approval covers gas in Crane County but rejects transporting sulfurous gas through the company pipeline. Residents cite leaks and a December 1999 8 inch line break near Sandhills gas plant releasing about 10 000 thousand cubic feet of sour gas. The leak was contained in 30 minutes and allowed to bleed down as per RRC. Dynegy faced a prior hydrogen sulfide leak near Denver City causing local evacuation. Bill Mumford of Dynegy says shutting Wickett theater reduces sulfur dioxide emissions. The pipeline is designed for sulfur bearing gas and will be monitored continuously.
