Mendoza resigns after cell phone incident amid sex case
On Page 1A 2015 report Mendoza resigned the same day after a cell phone was allegedly brought into the facility illegal. By Feb 8 an internal investigation began into a sexual relationship between an employee and an inmate. Defense attorney Adrian Chavez cited bragging by the DA about a relationship with Mendoza and Mendoza described in a March 8 taped interview that a juvenile laughed at her attempt to start relationships with other female staff. Mendoza said she cannot see her kids who live with grandparents without supervision and may never attend afterschool events or take them to the park due to sex offender registration. Chavez sought probation with supervision and counseling. Mendoza testified she only wants to be with her family, even if it means hard labor. Borden pressed whether treatment was offered before the decision to meet with the DA. Williams prosecuted the case for the Ector County Attorney.
