White was jailed after being identified in connection with two armed robberies, one in Odessa March 8 and another in Midland that Sunday. In Houston AP report notes Col Walter Williams, predicted last Civil War survivor, has died near Kingsport Tennessee at age 73? Actually born 1842 Miss. He outlived John Stalling who died in Kingsport at 112. Williams spent later years in Houston near veterans hospital. He earned honorary colonel title in 1950 and recalled a rough life with little care for health.

The Associated Press reports fires across the United States killed at least 37 people, many children. In Superior Wisconsin a father and five children perished in a duplex fire, while Cross Hill Washington DC saw eight children die in a house blaze.
