Three sailors dead in Navy bus crash near Charleston

A bus carrying Navy personnel to a wreath-laying ceremony collided head on with a tractor trailer on US 17 near Gardens Corner South Carolina. Three sailors were killed and about 70 others rushed to hospitals. A second Navy bus swerved to avoid the wreck and no others were hurt. The USS Pinckney, visiting South Carolina, will be commissioned in May in California.

Fifteen Teams Qualify For Desert Robot Race Finals

In Anaheim California fifteen unmanned vehicles qualified for a one million dollar DARPA Grand Challenge across the Mojave Desert from Barstow to Primm. Trials at Fontana's California Speedway saw seven finish the 1.36 mile course amid gravel pits and barriers. The race challenges autonomous navigation with no remote control, GPS briefing, and kill-switch safety measures.
