Lawmakers push cell phone bans in Texas after teen's death
Erin Leas, a 16 year old Smithson Valley cheerleader, died after crashing while talking on a cell phone. Lawmakers reviewed four bills on driving and phone use, with proposals for hands free devices, school zone bans, and under 18 talking limits during licensing. Witnesses urged action while critics warned of overreach and distraction types. The committee postponed a vote, planning a fuller House decision next week.
