Storm Troupers Belly Dancers Prep for Roswell Sci-Fi Events
Storm Troupers co-directors Victoria Whitecotton and Andrea Mauldin rehearse a two-woman light saber routine at Love to Dance Studio for performances at the Roswell International Sci-Fi Film Festival and Roswell UFO Festival in New Mexico. The act blends Middle Eastern and Western styles with theatrical storytelling, set to a mix of Johnny Cash, Modest Mouse and the Gaslight Anthem. Their 20 minute routine follows the red carpet gala, with two weeks of practice and props that replace a cane, as they aim for a ballet like finish while avoiding gimmicks. They will perform Fridays with classes offered at 6:30 to 8 p.m. starting July 13 at 2817 JBS Parkway, Suite E-1, $15 per drop in, bulk pricing available. Call 230-5456.
