Hobbs racetrack plan aims to revive economy and jobs

A proposed Hobbs New Mexico racetrack would host a 149 day season October through April on 400 acres at Hobbs Industrial Airpark. Backers estimate 3 500 daily attendees and 7 tracks overall would boost revenue while investors from Dallas and New York eye 14 million dollars in construction funding. Critics warn of market oversaturation and competition with Sunland Park. Miss Mutedo, the prize quarter horse, may not race at Hobbs as plans proceed.
