Contest safe from fuel woes at Big Spring airpark
Big Spring city officials confirm a temporary fuel shortage at McMahon-Wrinkle Airpark will not halt a weekend glider contest. C-Bar Flying Service, the airport’s operator, is out of fuel and closes July 1, with the city planning to take over refueling and radio operations until a new operator is contracted. About 45 aircraft are based there, and maintenance will not resume until a new operator is found. The hang glider event will proceed, using vehicle tow launches and no airplane fuel. The site, formerly Webb Air Force Base, is owned by the city since the base closed.
