Duke Bill Stymied by Senate Finance Committee
Baton Rouge AP report says former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke saw his bill to ban affirmative action postponed by the Senate Finance Committee on a 6-2 vote, likely ending its session. The House had approved it earlier, while black lawmakers called it racist and critics argued federal law supersedes such measures. Duke, a Metairie native and Senate candidate, criticized the move as political trickery.
