Ontario plans a multimillion dollar, multi lake project near Sudbury and Dorset following partial success in 1973. Liming is expensive and not a full environmental solution, with costs around hundreds per ton and thousands per lake. Officials warn fish losses could rise nationwide if unchecked. The issue fuels political talks with the United States on power-plant emissions and a broader air quality accord.
