Restored West Texas hotel reopens drawing big crowds
The Marathon landmark hotel, rebuilt by J P Bryant after changing hands several times, reopens with chefs Chuck and Edna Vigil at the helm. They serve a West Texas menu and host reunions, seminars, and oil company reservations, drawing visitors from Austin, Waco, Houston and San Antonio. The 17 rooms carry names from the Big Bend area and the hotel bears a turn of the century interior. Zane Grey is noted as a former guest and a 1981 historical marker marks the site.
