Car theft tips from Odessa authorities and insurer
Odessa Police Department spokesman Steve LeSueur says most thefts occur when owners leave keys in cars. State Farm agent Mike Podzemny urges parking in garages or well lit areas, locking doors, rolling up windows, not hiding extra keys, and avoiding running cars with keys inside. VIN etching and GPS tracking are recommended. NICB notes California's San Francisco Oakland Hayward area has the highest per capita theft rate.
