Despair and duty meet returning Pennsylvania Guardsmen in Iraq
Soldiers from the Pennsylvania National Guard recount a minute by minute struggle between hope and frustration as they return home from Iraq’s Anbar province. They praise efforts to build Iraqi security and restore electricity while questioning if their work will secure Iraq’s future. One sergeant recalls Sept 11 memories and the meat grinder nickname for Ramadi, noting insurgents wearing civilian clothes and using civilians as shields.
