Mississippi flood harms large area of prime farmland
Flood waters from the Mississippi River devastate about 1 900 acres of Missouris Bethmanns wheat soybeans and corn near St Peters. Analysts warn the loss could shrink the nations grain supply and push food costs higher amid rising corn prices and ethanol debate. Officials forecast food prices up to 9 percent, with Tyson Foods and other producers likely to raise prices for feed.

With energy and commodity prices rising, officials are unlikely to cut rates further but may avoid hikes to protect a housing and credit fragile economy. Fed chair Bernanke and colleagues begin a two day meeting in Washington, eyeing a 2 percent key rate and a 5 percent prime rate for many borrowers.
