Argentine political chiefs to meet army as public grows weary

Civilian leaders from five major parties said they will sit down with Reynaldo Bignone today to discuss Argentina’s future amid public fatigue over military rule. The coalition notes Argentines feel spectators in the president designation, while reports claim most generals and ministers learned of the Falklands invasion late. Mines left by Argentina threaten islanders as 103 minefields disrupt peat-based fuel needs.

Argentine soldiers say they had 'enough' in Falklands fighting

Milton Rhys, a 20 year old Argentine conscript of British descent, recalls crumbling resistance after 10 weeks in the Falklands. He describes the final assault on Stanley on June 14, a mortars strike that hit Gen. Mario Menendez's radio room and prompted the surrender. Rhys, among the first repatriated, says most troops did not fire a bullet and notes tensions with Falklanders, some aiding and some resisting Argentines.
