Distant quasars aid earth crust motion study
Scientists using ARIES project and very long baseline interferometry monitor bright quasars like 3C 273 billions of light years away to measure Earth's crust movements in centimeters per year. The aim is earthquake hazard reduction by identifying high risk regions and times while coordinating observatories from Goldstone to Owens Valley.
