Communist regiments press attack near Phnom Penh

Field reports say two weeks of heavy fighting along Highway 4 leave Communist led regiments concentrated south of Phnom Penh backed by artillery. Government forces withdrew after a failed attempt to relieve hamlets ringed for 10 days. A government outpost at Kampong Kantuot broke siege and evacuated about 40 wounded. A convoy of nearly 300 trucks with rice, beer, and cars reached Phnom Penh from Kompong Som. In Vietnam cease fire violations stayed low for the fourth day as both sides accuse each other of land grabs and fail to implement key accord provisions.
