Texas House weighs abortion clinic restrictions in special session

The Texas House and Senate push new abortion limits in a special session. SB5 would require clinics to be ambulatory surgical centers and doctors to have hospital admitting privileges, potentially closing most clinics. HB60 adds a 20 week ban with emergency exceptions and faced long floor testimony until 3:40 a.m. Friday. Republican leaders defended the measures amid protests from abortion rights supporters.

Tenaska quits plans for West Texas coal plant

Omaha based Tenaska ends pursuit of a coal fired power plant near Sweetwater Texas after more than five years. The company will shift to natural gas and renewable ventures. The canceled project proposed carbon capture to recover up to ninety percent of emissions and sell them to oil companies for enhanced recovery. Water scarcity was a major hurdle for the Sweetwater site.
