Infant girl dies in bathtub at South Texas motel
A 10 month old girl drowned in a motel bathtub in McAllen after her mother left two older children unsupervised with the running water to make a phone call. Alma Luz Mendoza, a 22-year-old Mexican national, was arraigned on two counts of child endangerment and one count of manslaughter with a $20,000 bond. The baby died at McAllen Medical Center. CPS took the other children into state custody as investigations continue.

Houston Marine killed in Iraq
A 27 year old Marine from the Houston area was killed by hostile fire in Iraq. Lance Cpl. Pedro Contreras of Harris County died Monday in Al Anbar Province west of Baghdad, while assigned to 2nd Battalion 4th Marine Regiment 1st Marine Division with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Pendleton.
