Reagan defends tuition tax breaks bill in private education push
President Reagan defended the Educational Opportunity and Equity Act of 1982 unveiling a tax credit plan to cover half tuition up to 100, 300, and 500 dollars through 1985. He argued private schooling would force public schools to raise standards while critics warn of cost amid a federal deficit and pushback from public school groups.
