Inquiry cites irregularities in Texas liquor board case
The TECB inquiry cites gifts and influence from beer and liquor interests. Crank was fired. Stevenson and Ferguson resigned from LCB posts as investigations into TLCB irregularities intensified. The report says Stevenson and others accepted gifts but finds no corroborated proof of direct compromise. It accuses industry figures of guiding enforcement and promotions, notes Bernice Clifton ran much of the office, and criticizes lax enforcement and restricted undercover travel. The panel faulted the agency as overly industry-influenced and recommends reforms.
