Frankfurter Grants Stay On Supreme Court Decision
Justice Frankfurter granted a stay on the June five ruling that the Communist party must register as a Moscow tool. The stay delays lower courts from enforcing the decision until the petition for reconsideration is acted upon, likely keeping the ruling ineffective until at least October nine. Communist officials had said they would not register, with Atty. Gen. Kennedy saying proceedings would start August ninth. The Communist petition argues the decision rests on findings not the record facts, threatening First Amendment protections.

Attorney Asks Venue Change in Teen Slaying Case
Houston attorney Percy Foreman asked Judge James Moore to move the murder trial of Charles Kimble age 15 and Robert Rothrock age 17 for the death of Jackie Merriman age 14, saying a fair hearing in Angelina County is unlikely. The judge set a later hearing as trials begin Monday with both teens free on $5,000 bonds after grand jury indictments.
