Women filing for bankruptcy more than other groups
Washington AP report notes that women accounted for 39 percent of bankruptcy filings in eight federal districts for the year ending March 31, more than men at 28 percent and married couples at 33. The data, from Harvard professor Elizabeth Warren, is cited amid congressional talks to tighten bankruptcy erasures. A bankruptcy expert, Sam Gerdano, questions the causal link to gender and cites divorce as a major factor. Warren was unavailable for comment.
