Safety agency probes Dakota trucks shifting into reverse
The NHTSA is examining 71 consumer complaints that 1991 and 1992 Dodge Dakota pickups with automatic transmissions roll from park into reverse with the engine running. Three deaths and 14 injuries occurred in 59 incidents, as Chrysler defends the probe while cooperating. The agency also reviews minivan battery explosions in Ford Mercury Villager models from 1993 to 1994 with hood denting in some cases, but no injuries reported.
