Malaysia moves to board up Vietnamese refugee boats
Malaysian officials round up boats to move thousands of Vietnamese refugees from the east coast while seven freighters wait offshore in Vietnamese waters to take more. Navy boats towed 585 boat people on Wednesday and 450 last Sunday. six more craft are being prepared. Authorities aim to clear 12,000 to 15,000 refugees, most ethnic Chinese, amid about 60,000 in camps awaiting resettlement. Diplomats warn the ships off Vietnam could hold several thousand each, similar to the Hai Hong case last November.
