Madison Barracks rises again through widow’s drive
In Sackets Harbor New York a historic Army post is being restored into a mixed use complex after decades of neglect. Widow Sydney Smith backed by financier Frank Augsbury Jr funds a project preserving the fort’s flavor while adding beachfront townhouses restaurants and a theater. The Barracks originally cost 151000 in 1816 and the restoration now tops five million.
