Target workers cast votes against forming a union as organizers and backers accuse management of intimidation during the drive. The action highlights ongoing tensions at the retailer with employees seeking collective bargaining rights.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 says it will contest the result and push for a federal new election after Valley Stream Target workers voted 137 to 85 against joining the union. Target denies intimidation. If the Vally Stream vote had passed, it would have marked the first Target location to unionize.
Baker Hughes reports US drilling activity increased this week with 1 984 oil rigs and 870 gas rigs online, plus six miscellaneous. Texas added five rigs, North Dakota four, and declines observed in New Mexico and several others. total peak was 4 520 in 1981.
