AMA backs self extinguishing cigarette idea in push for safer smoking
The American Medical Association urged tobacco makers to produce self extinguishing cigarettes to curb fires and deaths from smoking. Delegates said such products, which relight only if smoked, could save lives though doctors reitered opposition to smoking. A physician testified that tests show many fire-related deaths come from cigarettes and smoking remains widespread.
