Radio history museum preserves Americana in Memphis
In Memphis State University Bristor Library visitors hear Edison with the phonograph, Axis Sally, Jack Benny, Fred Allen and other radio nostalgia. The Radio History Collection includes nearly 550 tapes and 1,100 hours of broadcasts, offering a representative sampling to reveal the era’s flavor. Dr. Marvin Bensman notes the tapes let historians glimpse time periods through listening, not just printed records. A rare live broadcast of the invasion of France is among the tapes.

Court bars forced retirement of civil service workers before 70
U S District Judge Terence Evans ruled that state and local civil service employees cannot be forced to retire before age 70 when age is not a prime job qualification. The decision, in a Calumet County case, could be appealed to the 7th Circuit. Ruth Schabach challenged mandatory 65 cutoff. EEOC backed the suit.
