Insurance Dept probes Foundation Life linked to McCann pick

New Jersey firm Foundation Life Insurance Co. of Chatham runs under scrutiny by New York State Insurance Department over 1976 sale of life insurance and investment contracts to Brooklyn Local 918 without a New York license. McCann, Foundation Life president, was Reagan’s pick for ambassador to Ireland.

Researcher defends study linking wives of smokers to lung cancer

Tokyo cancer expert Dr. Takeshi Hirayama says his 14 year study of about 143000 women and 122000 men shows wives of smokers have a 2.08 times higher risk of lung cancer than wives of nonsmokers. He rejects Tobacco Institute claims of a key error and urges recalculation of studies that group subjects simply as smokers or nonsmokers to account for passive smoking.
